Quite a few people are going from loose natural hair back to relaxers, especially those with type 4C hair. I'm not here to judge anyone--I have very fine, breakage-prone hair, and the single-strand knots and constant stretching/twisting were tiring for me. If you feel the same but want to stay natural, locs might be the way for you to grow your hair long and maintain it a little easier. Locs are very versatile, taking very easily to a ton of styles. They're a protective style that doesn't require anything extra. Nothing's perfect, though, so make sure you do plenty of research! And, yes: Locs DO require commitment. But if you've been struggling with growing your 4C hair for years, why not take a different approach? Either way, hair takes time to grow. You don't have to go back to a relaxer to get the length you want. 4C hair DOES grow, and locs can help you retain that growth.
