Bon Jovi | Live at Great Strahov Stadium | Prague 1993

A show a number of fans have asked for and that certainly has some historical value since it was the first of (admittedly only two) visits the band paid to the Czech Republic throughout their career (since the 1995 concert got canceled). The circumstances were rather tough: The band played at one of the world’s biggest stadiums – the Strahov Stadium in Prague. While it technically holds the capacity for 8 soccer fields and 250,000 people, 20,000 showed up for this show, making it look more like a backyard BBQ. After the fall of the iron curtain, rock concerts were still relatively new in Eastern Europe. At times, the band appeared a bit alienated by the crowd responding differently than in other European countries in terms of not knowing the lyrics that well and not understanding Jon’s speeches. On top of that, summer had visibly left Europe (the show was in September) at this point, hence Jon’s cold had gotten the better of him which lead to one of his toughest performances of the whole year. The video was transferred by me all the way back in 2008 with what I'd still call state-of-the-art equipment at the time. The only downside is that I was new to all of this and "cleaning" the sound on cheap old computer sound boxes while thinking how great it was to remove the hiss. Listening back, a portion of the music also went away with it. I tried feeding the sound back and forth between the channels and other tricks to get around it, but there's certainly a slight emptiness in there, but the clarity certainly got improved while remastering it. The video was readjusted as well though I usually don't have much to redo on them even nowadays if it was transferred with that setup at some point. Setlist: 01. I Believe [0:00] 02.
