Generations have grown up with her music, which is infused with a spirit of openness. The diva, known for her mysteriously motionless performances, has been a star throughout the Arab world since the late 1950s. During the Lebanese civil war, which lasts from 1975 to 1990, she deliberately remains neutral. She only performs abroad, but continues to live in Lebanon. She sees her music as her political comment – as a message for peace, understanding and hope. Fairouz records "Eh Fi Amal" („Yes, there is hope") in 2010. She sings about the forced separation of two lovers and their hope of a reunion. In neighbouring Syria, Fairouz's music is frequently played in Assad's state media, however opposition radio stations soon turn "Eh Fi Amal" into the slogan of Syrian pacifists. Die Sängerin Fairouz ist im Libanon eine Institution. Generationen wuchsen mit ihrer Musik auf, die vom Geist der Offenheit durchweht wird.
